Domestic Violence

Under Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada, every one who commits as assault is guilty of (a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or (b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.

Uttering Threats

Based on Section 264. 1 of the Criminal Code, every one who commits an offence who, in any manner, knowingly utters, conveys or causes any person to receive threat: to cause death or bodily harm to any person; to burn, destroy or damage real or personal property; or to kill, poison or injure an animal or bird that is the property of any person is guilty of an indictable or summary offence which may be punishable of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years.

Youth Crimes

The Youth Criminal Justice Act modifies the Criminal Code for individuals aged 12-17. In YCJA, there is a higher emphasis on rehabilitation, monitoring, and reintegration in the community. It carries special punishments such as Extrajudicial Measure, encourage young persons to acknowledge and repair harm caused to the victim and community and Reprimand, a lecture from a Judge. Reprimand occurs after a finding of guilt.
