FATIMA ANGELES, JD, MSc, LLM
Barrister, Solicitor & Notary Public
Fatima is a member of the Law Society of Ontario (LSO), the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), and the Canada Bar Association (CBA). Since her call to the Ontario Bar, she has been mentored by a highly experienced lawyer who practices Real Estate Law, Commercial Law, Estate Law and Wills, Civil Litigation, Family Law, Personal Injury, Immigration Law, and Corporate Law.
Also a member in good standing of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), she had been a practicing lawyer herself in the Philippines for more than 12 years prior to migrating to Canada. During these 12 long years, she was exposed to vast areas of law that afforded her diverse experiences in handling cases involving the application of domestic and international laws in the country and the region.
Fatima has represented the Philippines in different international bodies, i.e., the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund (IOPCF), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London, United Kingdom (Intervenor for the Philippine’s Claim), the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), an independent judicial body established by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea located in Hamburg, Germany (Maritime Law and Policy Programme), and Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies – Working Level Meeting held in Karachi, Pakistan (Speaker/Presenter of Fourth Pillar re: Marine Environmental Protection Law). She has also participated in several international and regional meetings, workshops, and field studies held in Singapore, Shanghai, China, Bali, Indonesia, Kitakyushu and Tokyo, Japan, Seoul, South Korea, Santiago and Valparaiso Chile, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Malmo, Sweden.
Having gone through the intricacies and difficulties of migration and divorce herself, she developed a strong sense of purpose and motivation to help her clients settle their family and immigration issues (among other legal concerns), albeit maintaining legal and professional decorum – basically what AJ Law LLP is about.
Fatima holds a Master of Laws degree (Canadian Law in a Global Context) from the University of Toronto-Faculty of Law, a Master of Science degree in Maritime Law and Policy from the World Maritime University (a United Nations specialized agency) in Sweden under a Sasakawa Peace Foundation Grant & Full Scholarship, a Bachelor of Laws degree (now Juris Doctor) from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
